Just a brief note to say a huge thanks to all those who took part in the Wyvern Trophy on the 26th July at Enmore Park GC.

The turnout was great, with many clubs represented, the golf course superbly well presented and unlike last year the weather was excellent.

The decision to play from the early tees was made to help speed up the game as the golf club were hosting a wedding party later that day. The shotgun start worked well, ensuring we were back in the club house for around 4 hours.

The club provided bacon rolls, and drinks on arrival with a superb summer buffet after golf. The staff were super efficient, welcoming, and helped to make the day a success.

Thank you to all the clubs who provided 4 ball vouchers which were used as prizes, and congratulations to the winners.

Can I offer my personal thanks to those who help with the scoring, and apologies for the hiccup with the system. We managed to resolve the matter before everyone left the club and the correct winners were presented with the right prize.

Thanks again for all your support, all profits go towards supporting Junior golf across the County and we look forward to welcoming you next year,

All the best,

Andy Carter

14th July Chairman’s Invitation Day for the Wyvern Trophy Clevedon GC

18-Hole Club Team entry event/shotgun start

RESULTS

Andy Carter (Chairman Somerset Golf Union) was there to meet and greet everyone as the day began at 08.15am

It was wet, very wet! Regardless of the weather 21 teams ventured out and all but 1 completed the 18 holes! Thank you so much Clevedon GC, members and all staff for looking after us all day. Special thanks to the Green Staff, the course was in top condition.

Our winners will look back on the day when in golfing terms David beat Goliath, it may not have been single combat but its a small club who on the day had a big attitude. The name Kingweston will be on the Wyvern Trophy (Donated by Barrie Lake Past President of the SGU and a member at Saltford GC)

Congratulations to our winners and all the teams who made the most of the conditions and collectively raised £1000.00 which will go towards Junior Development in Somerset.

2022 CHAIRMANS INVITATION DAY

The WYVERN TROPHY MONDAY 4th JULY at LONG SUTTON GC

Presented by: Barrie Lake, Past President SGU

RESULTS

Once again our thanks to the members, management, and staff of Long Sutton GC for hosting this year's Chairman’s Invitation Day. Once again blessed with good weather and a little less hot than last year, thankfully!

For the first time the event was played as a Texas Scramble and attracted a host of our counties past players who now enjoy professional status, plus a guest teams from Cornwall captained by Glyn Rowell SWCGA President and England Golf, captained by Graham Yates, immediate past president EG.  In all 20 teams played for the Wyvern Trophy this year with 17 of our clubs represented.

Extended thanks go out to all of the counties sponsors and special mention to Golf Tee Times/Brittany Ferries for donating prizes on each of the par 3’s and to the many clubs who kindly gave complementry 4BBB's as auction prizes, some were used on the day, others will be at a later date. We also had a fantastic side of smoked salmon and a huge topside of beef making up the auction list which Tommy Tulk “County Chairman” ran with all profits to be reinvested in Junior Golf Somerset.

Now for the golf, as you will see above the results were very impressive indeed. Our early leaders captained by Stuart Hodder, owner of Long Sutton, Phip White, county champion 2022, Tom Sloman & Tom Plumb (Walker Cup Team 2019) and current tour players returned a Nett 58 - (Gross 56 - 14 under par) However their impressive score was only to finish 6th!

The prizes winners where; 4th Fosseway, 3rd England Golf, 2nd  Worlebury, just missing out on winning for a 3rd time running by 2 shots from last year's runners up with a truly magical Nett 54, Vivary Park GC
