Early scores came in from Dorset, along with a strong 36 points from Somerset’s Oscar Smyth. Two players from Devon followed with 39 points each, making it a very close-run competition.
It all came down to the last three matches, in which 9-year-old Oscar Ackland shot an impressive 37 points. Next in was Regis Swindell, posting the day’s best score of 39 points, winning on countback.
Finally, it was left to Somerset’s anchorman, Harry Petteridge, to seal the win with 34 points – including a solid 20 points on the back nine.
It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all.
The John Sercombe Trophy was presented to Somerset by Fosseway Club President Roger Parfitt.
A big thank you to Fosseway Golf Club and its members, who turned out in force to help on the day. Thanks also to all the players and parents who made it a truly memorable event.

Somerset 2.5 Gloucestershire 1.5
The matches kicked off with Captain Ronnie Santo (Worlebury) and Isaac Reeves (Saltford), who teamed up effectively to secure a tight 2&1 victory.
Fraiser Withers (Burnham & Berrow) and Louis Baker (Saltford) fought hard against a strong Gloucestershire pairing but unfortunately came up short, losing 5&4.
Ben Taylor (Wells) and Will Hambleton (Wells) capped off an impressive six-hole winning stretch with a birdie on the 15th to win their match 5&3 on debut.
The final match to finish saw Harry Reay (Bath) and Regis Swindle (Taunton & Pickeridge) display some clutch putting, playing the last three holes 1-under par to secure a half and clinch Somerset’s overall 2.5 – 1.5 victory.
All players from both sides performed admirably, and a great time was had by all.
Special thanks to Wheathill Golf Club for providing the course and their warm hospitality throughout the day.
