With clubs opening at the end of March the County have decided to delay the Scratch Pairs. We are working with the host Club to find a later date.

This years Championship will give many the opportunity to play links golf and with the 2021 South West Week being hosted by Burnham and Berrow GC in June the chance to play and practice at Burnham may give an edge to some when the SGU Captain selects his squad for South West Week. Entries will be limited.

In response to feedback from the players, the Scratch Foursomes competition was re-aligned to become a Scratch Pairs Championship. Instead of 36 holes of foursomes, we will play the morning round as a Scratch Betterball Championship, the afternoon Foursomes Championship and combine the two scores to produce a 36 hole Championship)

 2019 COUNTY SCRATCH FOURSOMES

The morning round of foursomes was won by Alex Winn and Joshua Freeman with a gross score of 69. Followed in by  Taylor Stote (last years winner) with his new partner on the day, Jeremy Larcombe, with a gross 70. The morning saw testing conditions with a chilly wind making the finishing holes a greater challenge than many expected. The 17th  a short 482 yard par 5 accounting for many dropped shots. 

2019 PAIRS BETTERBALL

The afternoons competition saw the County Captain, James Ward, and partner, Andy Ferris, return a score of 65 gross which matched the score returned by the morning winners Winn and Freeman.. Under par scores were common place as the conditions improved but none were able to match the front runners. On count back Ward and Ferris back 9 of 32 was just enough to see the betterball trophy home..

2019 County Scratch Pairs Championship

No count back was required to crown the overall County Scratch Pairs Champions. Winn and Freeman lifted the trophy with a combined total of 134, two shots clear of their playing partners, Jeremy Larcombe and Taylor Stote, whose afternoon challenge came off the raiils over the back 9 when victory was in sight. The net 36 prize went to Phil Coleman and Jamies Short..

PRESENTATION

Geoff Ogden County President (starter am and pm) presented the trophies and thanked Weston-Super-Mare Golf Club for hosting the event. Overall a great start to the County Season, good scoring, great atmosphere and a well supported Tournament.
