SomersetGolf Union
It is with great sadness that I share the news that Tony Hill, Past President of the Somerset Golf Union, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday 27 December.
Tony was an influential and much‑respected figure in English golf. He served as President of the English Golf Union in 1990, was a dedicated member and former Chairman and Captain of Burnham & Berrow Golf Club and held several leadership roles within the Somerset Golf Union. His decades of service to the game included significant involvement with The R&A, and he was well known for his refereeing duties at The Open, further cementing his legendary status at his home club.
Tony was also deeply committed to youth development and golf administration, earning recognition for his long-standing dedication. His connection to golf ran in the family; his father, E. D. Hill, also served as President of the English Golf Union in 1974 and founded the West of England Public Schools Golf Championship, a competition Tony continued to support wholeheartedly.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.
