Welcome Alex Clapp, farewell to Simon Shanks.

The Somerset Golf Union have appointed Alex Clapp as Head Coach - https://www.alexclappgolf.com

As we enter the 2025 season we are pleased to announce Alex Clapp as the interim coach for the Somerset 1st Team. Alex comes with a wealth of experience and is passionate about the development of the game having started his golfing career at a young age at Enmore Park Golf Club and is a huge supporter of Somerset.​

Upon completing a BTEC National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science, Alex achieved a Golf Scholarship to attend Bethune Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida playing NCAA Division 1 golf. He played on the golf team for four years, captained the side in his final two years, winning the National Minority Collegiate Golf Championship twice.

Alex was appointed by the Golf Union in an interim position until the end of the 2025 season as Simon Shanks exits to pursue further work on the various Tours.

Simon took the decision to step away from Somerset due to his work with several Tour players, and much of his time is now spent overseas. We wish Simon all the best and thank him for the many years of guidance and support. We will continue to track his success on the Tour and hope to see him soon, thank you from all of us…..
